YOUNG DRIVER INTERVIEW

with Oliver Goethe

Oliver Goethe is a 16-year-old Danish racing driver who lives in Monaco. He has raced with MP Motorsport in F4 Spain last season. I had the chance to chat with him.

youngdriversmonthly:

Hi Ollie! Hope you’re doing well. How do you keep yourself busy during winter?

Oliver Goethe:

So to start with, I’ve been attending school, studying for my IGCSE’s. At the moment I’m on school holidays therefore decided to spend a week training in the Alps. I’ve also done plenty of karting and sim racing to keep me sharp.

-

YDM:

When have you started karting? And how did you get in touch with this sport?

OG:

My dad raced in WEC so I’ve grown up with the sport. So he introduced me to karting at a very young age and his teammate became my long-term coach.

-

YDM:

What was your biggest karting success?

OG:

I became French vice-champion in X30 Junior.

-

YDM:

When did you first sat in an F4 car? And how was this first experience for you?

OG:

I first sat in an F4 car at the age of 13 in Barcelona, Spain and until that point it was one of the best experiences of my life.

-

YDM:

Last season you’ve won one race and finished 5th overall in F4 Spain with MP Motorsport. Are you happy with your first full season in single seaters?

OG:

As a racing driver, you can never be happy with 5th however it was my first season in cars and the level was high. I’ve taken many positives from the year which I will transfer into this season.

-

YDM:

What are your hobbies aside from racing?

OG:

I really enjoy many other sports, such as football and boxing and I also enjoy playing the piano.

-

YDM:

Do you have any strange rituals or habits you do ahead of a race?

OG:

No.

-

YDM:

You’ve competed in multiple iRacing series during lockdown last year. What were you able to learn during this time?

OG:

I love sim racing. I believe it’s the perfect way to keep sharp and work on my consistency and my race-craft when I’m not physically at a race track.

-

YDM:

What do you eat in a day as an athlete?

OG:

I keep a healthy and balanced diet, but occasionally, as a cheat meal, I enjoy the odd pizza now and again.

-

YDM:

Have you regretted any decisions in your career so far?

OG:

I don’t believe in having regrets, every decision I’ve made in my career are what my family and I believed were the correct decisions at that time.

-

YDM:

Who are your main supporters in your career so far?

OG:

To start with, for sure, my family are my biggest supporters, also my coach, Stuart Hall, who has been alongside me since the first day I stepped in a kart, my close friends Florent Jimenez and Nico Gonzales, helped me throughout my karting days and lastly Bullet Sport Management, with their professionalism and family-like atmosphere, are always in my corner.

-

YDM:

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

OG:

Like any young driver in single-seaters my end goal is to be in Formula 1 as a professional racing driver.

-

YDM:

How can fans follow your journey in motorsport?

OG:

Fans can keep up to date through my social media @olivergoethe
